"Off" Days

By nature, I'm a pretty happy person. I feel really lucky for that. I don't know if it's the wiring of my brain, how I've worked to train myself to see the good in all situations, or my special set of hormones that makes me who I am, but I'm thankful that most days I am genuinely happy.

But to be very honest, I have bad days, too.

I am guessing that I'm not alone, that sometimes you have "off" days, too. I don't have this figured out by any stretch of the imagination, but I want to share with you how I handle these days. They're inevitable. Sometimes it's stress, sometimes it's a life event that triggers them. They will pass, but they will be back, too.

Balance

I don't know if you know this, but 2017 is my year.

I'm going places this year. I'm meeting new people. I'm taking chances with my career. I'm seizing opportunities as they place themselves in front of me.

One of the things I'm pursuing this year is balance. I am a self-proclaimed work-a-holic (I blame my childhood; see: Sweet Corn Season post) and I'm not very good at rest (see: Rest post) even when I say I am.

I've been reflecting more on this aspect of life recently - my own challenges and how I'm working towards a healthier life this year.

Soul Food

This Christmas I'm feeding my soul.

About 95% of the time, I make decisions about what to eat based on health. I really believe (depending on what you eat) food is either medicine or poison. I think about this a lot and I try to live by that rule.

But there are times that food is as much medicine for my soul as it is for my body. In my book, Christmas is one of those times.

Five Tips for Surviving (and even Enjoying) The Holidays

For those of us with a sweet tooth (or an urge to snack on things in front of us), this can be a treacherous time of year. I mean, I barely made it out of the grocery store alive after the Halloween candy sale (ahem, not saying that nothing "accidentally" fell into my cart). Up next are two of my favorite - not to mention the most delicious - holidays of the year.

I mean, there is one holiday that is completely dedicated to eating with those you love. Seriously? It's like Thanksgiving's subtitle is Ann's Ideal Holiday.

But of course, for those of us who also prioritize our health, this time of the year brings certain challenges. I.e. fighting the urge to eat all the things. As such, I'd like to share with you a few of my personal strategies that I use to help find a balance between health and enjoyment of some of these favorite foods.
